BMW Sports Trophy

Robert Thiele, TeamDI Pro IT racer of Team Auto Technic driving a BMW 325i and second place finisher in the young and growing ITR class, represented the TeamDI Pro IT series at this year's BMW Motorsports Party in Munich, Germany. The BMW Motorsports Party is an annual gathering of BMW Formula 1 and Touring Car works teams, as well as BMW privateers from around the world. BMW created this tradition to celebrate the last racing season with drivers and supporters and to honor the numerous privateers who are engaged in racing events around the globe representing the Bavarian brand's Motorsports tradition.

BMW showed a spot with snapshots from selected racing series from WTCC (World Touring Car Championship), BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) and Nürburgring 24h race, and included footage from 2008 TeamDI Pro IT finals at New Jersey Motorsports Park. BMW Motorsport boss Dr. Mario Theissen and BMW works pilot Jörg Müller honored Robert Thiele's engagement with BMW. Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld joined the stage later to honor all 25 selected worldwide BMW privateers.

"For me it was a dream come true: being so close with racing professionals I admire and feel their respect and appreciation for what we do on an amateur level on a daily basis in SCCA Club Racing, TeamDI Pro IT and other racing series. It felt like a big family. Even more after I found out from Dr. Mario Theissen that he worked with my uncle at BMW over 20 years ago developing motors for Formula 1". The (racing) world is sometimes small.

The agenda also included an exclusive guided tour behind the closed doors of BMW's Classic World where BMW stores the majority of its hundreds of vintage, racing and concept cars as well as motorbikes, a collection consisting of almost 100 years of automobile heritage. It features cars like a BMW 328 driven by his first owner for 70 years and 2,000,000 (!) kilometers, BMW M1 Procars, turbo powered formula racers from the 80s and beautiful BMW 507s.

After a long flight from Boston, a long day at BMW and an even longer night at the BMW Motorsport Party, Robert Thiele returned to the States with a big smile. "I'm impressed to see a car manufacturer living the motorsport tradition and extending its commitment to motorsport and racing enthusiasts worldwide, especially in times of a challenging economy".

What is TeamDI.com Pro IT?

The northeast Pro IT series was concieved in 2007 at the ARRC at Road Atlanta. Seeing what the Atlanta region was doing we knew we could do this up north. The reasoning behing this series is to allow our drivers to have more track time during the weekend. There is always an oppurtunity to 'double dip' and race in at least 2 races per weekend. This was also a way for the host region to collect an additional entry fee as well as provide the sponsors a showplace for their products. The Pro IT management does not receive any benefit besides seeing the racers have fun.

In 2008 we kicked off in Pocono and ended in New Jersey.

In 2009 we had our first Pro support race at NJMP with the ARCA series.

What will 2010 bring, we shall see...
